Cairo (Arabic: القاهرة transliteration: Al-Qāhirah), which means "the Vanquisher" or "the Triumphant", is the capital and largest city of Egypt. It is the Arab World [3] and Africa's most populous city.[4] While Al-Qahirah is the official name of the city, in Egyptian Arabic it is called by the dialect's name for the country, transliteration: Masr. Within Egypt, residents of Cairo are called Masraweya rather than Masri. Egyptian government estimates that Cairo is home to about 28 million people. Can you believe this??
So let's beging the trip to Cairo. The flight was a short 45 minute flight to the huge airport about 30 minutes outside the city. All you can see from up there was sand, I am serious is in the middle of the desert. Had a very expensive trip to the hotel that lasted more than 1 hour because of the traffic. For the following pics is important to imagine 4000 thousand years ago; no cars, no electricity, no big building (except below), no internet. So let our minds wonder....
Here we have a replica of a palace next to the Nile. Palaces were next to the river because it allowed the Kings to move quicker anywhere plus they were able to control the products being transferred through there.
4000 years ago... Agriculture.
Here is them making glass.
They were the only civilization that momified their kings. They believed in a second life that was going to be more prosperous than the first. The God of momification, Anubis, used to take out the liver, the intestines, the stomach and the lungs. He would place these in 4 different jars that would be placed next to the coufin in the Tomb. The heart? No one know what they did with it. The brain? Guess what they did. They cut it in pieces and buried it because it contained all the secrets of that King; and only him had the answer to everything. WOW.
So at first look the Pyramids. Big "buildings" of rock in the middle of the desert. Why? Well 4000 years ago there was no desert. The nile river ran through there and everything was green. SO why the Pyramids? These big structures were created to bury the King and his posessions so that no one ever would be able to get to it and in his 2nd life he would be more properous than the first.
Here is KOFU (Sphinx). The body of a Lion, the face of Kofu. Represented power.
Ramses II. This statute is 100 meter long. There were only 2 made. They used to stand outside his palace in Upper Egypt protecting him.
SAQQARA. First pyramid ever built. Look at the design. Anything?
Now this one....
A view from the side...
And Menkoura. The smallest pyramid. The king died before finishing it and the servents had to finish it so he could be buried.
Any questions?
